The Poppy And The Diamond

Dear Friend,

Over the recent weeks, especially the past few, our world has undoubtedly changed. We are in a time and space that is dynamic, challenging, uncertain and ever-shifting.

Throughout the years, I have always kept a poppy near my desk, in my vehicle and at my bedside. Being a strong symbol of remembrance and respect for those many men and women who fought for our freedom in the World Wars, its meaning still prevails to this day...in honor of those who came before and for those who still stand tall in their duty. That poppy has reminded me of the gratitude for those who have served and sacrificed, and still do, in all aspects of the military and defence.

I have also held dear to this shining diamond on my shelf. It has always reminded me of beauty, depth and strength...now recently, it has taken on a whole new significance...and so I placed it respectfully beside the poppy, on a fence post along a quiet country road, to share this image, as another meaningful symbol...

The health professionals - frontline doctors, nurses, first responders, caretakers and all those working tirelessly during these adverse times remind me of the diamond. A diamond is composed of carbon and contains tightly bonded carbon arrangements which in turn yield one of the most durable, concentrated and versatile substances known to humans.  The pure luster of this radiant gem is matched by its inherent capacity to withstand pressure...deeply reminiscent of the character of those aforementioned heroes. Their stories and commitment will be revered in this generation and far beyond.

As those who fought on the battlefields and supported the war efforts did so with valor, dedication and resilience...so, too, have our frontline healthcare workers, truly engaged in a current, difficult and demanding campaign. Only those who have been in battle or who toil on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic really understand what it is like in their respective spheres. And as this situation continues to unfold, may those in today’s efforts, to shield our world’s health and well-being, draw from the spirit of those who defended and continue to protect our way of life.

The Poppy and The Diamond...two representations, in their own right, of courage, fortitude, teamwork and heroism.

May we all continue to send them our positivity, intention and gratitude in support of their safety, inspiration and noble endeavors.

Love and Strength,

Ranj
